    Dear Chapter Members,

I’d like to thank all of our members for their participation and enthusiasm at the 2019 Member Benefit Day. I always enjoy seeing and catching up with you at our events. I personally found the Social Media and Dark Web Investigations useful, and hope you had good takeaways as well. Thanks to all who kept up with our “Grand Baby-Watch Updates.”  We are pleased to announce Riley arrived at 2:26 AM on October 3rd.  Everyone is doing great!  I realize my grandpa status is official because my main incentive to work is to afford airline tickets to go spoil him in North Carolina.

As we grow our online social media presence, we need volunteers to serve on our   Chapter’s Social Media Committee.  We are looking for new ideas, content and the “wow-factor.” Anyone who enjoys social media and wants to get involved in the Chapter, this is the committee for you.  We are currently on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and LinkedIn.  I encourage all our members to follow our pages and share with friends and colleagues. If you are interested in this committee, email us at info@middletennesseecfe.org

The next Chapter meeting is Thursday, October 17, 2019 at the Scarritt Bennett Center.  This will be a great opportunity to learn about health care fraud investigations.  Certified Fraud Examiner and Qlarant Vice President of Operations, Christopher Mabile, and Certified Fraud Examiner, Accredited Healthcare Fraud Investigator and UPICSW Senior Vice President and Program Director S. Scott Ward, will be our luncheon speakers. We met these guys at the ACFE Global Conference in Austin this year and invited them to speak at our luncheon.  I look forward to hearing their insight and we all have a lot to learn from them.  Be sure and sign up by Wednesday, October 9th.

    And finally…

    Dear Chapter Members,

Today, I find myself writing my second “Message from the President,” wondering, “How did I get here?” Well, I had a lot of help from YOU! I now want to give back to the MTACFE and its members which give so freely to me. As I reflect upon my first board and chapter meeting last month and where we have been as an organization, where we are, and where we are headed, all I can say is “WOW.”

During my presidency, my hope is to continue building upon the success of those who have brought the MTACFE to where it is today. I hope to further our training opportunities to best serve our membership. I hope to continue to make our chapter relevant with positive messaging through increased education and the good work we do.

The highlight of the year for me is the Member Benefit Day and the Annual Fraud Conference. Attendance continues to grow, as does the relevant content. This year, our September 24th Member Benefit Day registration filled to the 200-member limit within two weeks of opening.  Normally, we allow for members to register and then open registration to the public.  Not this year! In fact, there are members on the waiting list. If you are unable to attend, please follow the cancellation policies and email us at info@middletennesseecfe.org so that someone may “benefit” from your spot.

Member Benefit Day will launch at 7:30 a.m. with sign-in and a continental breakfast in the Tennessee Room at the William R. Snodgrass/Tennessee Tower.  The program starts at 8:00 a.m. sharp.  There will be snacks through the day with lunch on your own.

If that information wasn’t already enough, our Annual Fraud Conference has outgrown the One Century Place venue. Our Chapter leadership and Conference Committee are working diligently to provide exciting, comfortable accommodations.  A new facility, a new layout and a host of great speakers are in store for attendees.  Details are to follow in the coming days.

The hard work of leadership, committee chairs, and volunteers is contagious to the betterment of our Chapter. This collective embodies what I have grown to love and respect in the Middle Tennessee Chapter of the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners.

Again, all I can say is “WOW.”

    Dear Chapter Members,

I am incredibly honored to be serving as your chapter President.  I am humbled to lead an organization that has contributed so much to my own career and personal growth. I joined the Middle Tennessee Chapter of the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners in 2013 shortly after making a career change into the private sector.  I have found unmeasurable value in my membership over the years. Though this organization, I have gained vital industry knowledge, expanded my network of peers, and along the way met some treasured friends and mentors.

The Middle Tennessee Chapter is an essential asset to the local fraud fighting mission. Our chapter produces highly rated annual events which are talked about throughout our region and beyond. We would not be able to do so without the help and dedication of our valuable members. We strive to host the best programs and educational events which appeal to and educate our audiences. Throughout the year, we will host luncheons and events that should appeal to a diverse audience including entry-level practitioners to seasoned professionals. At each event, we gain satisfaction when we see continued growth year after year.

On Thursday, August 15th, the new Board of Directors will meet to strategize and plan an amazing membership year for you full of educational, professional development, and networking opportunities. Afterwards, we will kick off our first luncheon with a delicious meal followed by a presentation by Metro Police Detective Deck Thorowgood from the Department’s Fraud Unit.

I am proud to preside over an amazing team of men and women that make up our Chapter.

Barry S. Pruitt, CFE, CFI, CCII, CCTA
